The second race on the 2012 NHRA was my favorite stop on the circuit. Not because its a cool track or its a big race but because I get to sleep on my own bed every night. Lets get right to the action of a gorgeous weekend in the Arizona desert.

A few months ago I was lucky enough to shoot my fourth Super Bowl game. This game would be a rematch of the 2009 Superbowl that took place in Arizona between the Patriots and the Giants. Now if only this game could be as exciting as that one!

My last shoot of 2011 was up in Vegas where I shot UFC 141 at the MGM Grand. The main fight of the evening was a heavyweight matchup between Alistair Overeem and Brock Lesnar but it would be upstaged by the prior fight between Donald Cerrone and Nate Diaz.

I have been shooting NHRA drag races for over 22 years (since I was 10 years old!) and thought I had seen and shot it all. With all the wild rides I have seen over the years, nothing really surprises me. During the first round of eliminations in the top alcohol dragster category at the NHRA Winternationals, driver Mike Austin got my attention as he went for quite possibly the wildest ride I have ever seen in my life.

It is finally time to bring my “Best of 2011″ series to an end with everyones favorite category (except those who appear in these pics) with my Best of Crash and Burn. Not many years ago many of the crashes you see in this post would have resulted in injuries for the drivers but thanks to todays safety technology every driver seen in this blog would walk away. The same can’t be said for their race cars!

Up next in my Best of 2011 series is my best baseball photos of the year. In my opinion I had a somewhat down year for cool baseball shots but I still had a decent enough year that I am posting the gallery! Baseball is one of those sports that you could attend several games and not get any good action shots. But every once in awhile you can get something cool.

The previous race I covered was an epic championship race for the NHRA so heading to Miami for NASCAR I was hopeful for another close championship race. Close would be understatement as heading into the race Carl Edwards led Tony Stewart by an astoundingly close three points. Time to award some hardware!

Mark J. Rebilas is a professional photographer based out of Phoenix, AZ. He first had a camera in his hand at the age of 10 as he traveled with his father, Gil, covering motorsports around the country. Rebilas spent five years as a US Navy photographer where he won numerous awards as he led 22 photographers onboard the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis during a war time deployment around three continents. After his honorable discharge, Rebilas moved back to Phoenix where he covers freelance assignments for numerous clients around the world. When the highest quality imagery is needed, Rebilas is called on to do the job. In the past few years Rebilas has covered such sporting events as the Olympics, Pan Am Games, Superbowl, World Series, Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, US Open and countless other major events. His images regularly appear in publications such as Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, Sporting News, USA Today, LA Times, yahoo.com, aol.com and countless other publications. Whether its hanging by a harness out of a combat helicopter on a war time mission, driving through a wall of fire while covering forest fires or mounting remote cameras on backflipping snowmobiles, Rebilas consistantly provides the high quality images his clients demand.
