After a massive series of thunderstorms brought a washout to racing action on Saturday, we would be greeted with sunny skies and warm conditions for race day. It would make for a wild and crazy day of racing.

After all the rain the previous evening it was great to see blue skies for race day. The fans would arrive in masses on race day.

Canon 1Dx, 24-70mm, 100iso, f6.3, 1/800th, Aperture Priority The heavy rains of Saturday evening left plenty of standing water throughout the Royal Purple Raceway pit area.

I’ve seen fans have drivers sign body parts and fake legs but a respirator mask while being worn? That was pretty interesting…

I bet Force has signed all sorts of odd things over his multi decade career!

With all the rain washing the rubber off the track combined with the direct sunlight on a warm day would make for some slip-n-slide racing action!

Time for top fuel!

Here is a composite of photos from each pair of top fuel races in the first round of eliminations. As you can see, the track wasn't what the teams expected it to be as the cars slipped and slid all over the dragstrip.

Funny car would give top fuel a run for its money in the wild and crazy department…

Here is a composite of photos from each pair of funny car races in the first round of eliminations. Its a good visual to show how tricky the track conditions were and how it threw nearly every driver for a curveball.

For round two of the pros I would shoot from the top of the grandstand for a different angle.

    Mark,

I have heard that when you used a Nikon D800 you shot in JPEG. What format are you shooting in now that you are using Canon cameras?

    Thanks
