Yesterday I made the flight up to Colorado for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. After having fun shooting the private practice a few weeks ago I was antsy to get back up on the mountain…. despite the 2:30am wakeup calls I will endure the next few days.

After shooting near the 9 mile mark last time, I wanted to experience more of the mountain on this trip. For today I would start up near the 11 mile mark on the mountain and slowly walk down the mountain, which allows me to look for interesting angles.

Anytime you wake up and don’t see the sun. Its too damn early!

The funny thing is the below photo was more than two hours after I actually got up.

Tomorrow I plan to head up high on the mountain above the tree line to see what I can come up with.

That 2:30am wakeup call is coming soon. Good night!

Mark…love your work…I started my photog career as a caught up in the new SLR rage when stationed in Japan, far too long ago…went on to end up in the commercial table top whirled with many weddings, portraits, races, buildings, interiors and food shots in the mix.

Film is a totally different breed from digital though a good eye is the one undeniable key in common. Putting a ‘feel’ to the work is probably most photogs greatest quest.

One point I’d make with your need for speed shots is…well, wait, first, I know you shoot for sales to drivers, owners and companies, so put this in perspective…dead on frozen at a 5000th gets the capture, now consider a slower shutter speed with a bit of pan for some of your takes…it gets ‘feel’ of speed incorporated into the frame…your shot above of Lennon and the, what look like to me lupins has that sense of movin’ right along…jus’ sayin’ buddy…you got it goin’ on which is why I’ve taken a moment to give you a toss.

Keep up the great work your doin’…I’ve passed your site on to a number of car guys I know…I have the need for speed too!!

    Peace out,
    CPL

Hello Mark. Your photos often make me feel like I’m there from here on the other side of the world in Melbourne, Australia. Thanks.
