Beyond all the successes and events I shot during 2008, nothing can compare to my 3 weeks in Beijing, China covering the 2008 Summer Olympics. It was my first Olympics and allowed me the chance to try and compete with the worlds best sports photographers. It was a very long, exciting, eye opening trip. A few weeks ago I was laying on the couch watching Family Guy when a commercial came on advertising a college basketball doubleheader at the NFL stadium here in Phoenix. I despise basketball and think the sport should be banned but I instantly sent a email to my credential guy requesting a pass. Why you may ask? Because I envisioned an amazing wide angle shot of a tiny basketball court inside of the massive stadium. Continue reading to see how it all panned out.

Throughout the year there are some sports I cover only once or twice so instead of leaving them out I have decided to show some of my best sports images from random sports. Some of my best photos of the year came from some of these random sports that I normally dont shoot. So while a lot of these sports are far from random for most of you, they are for me.

In the 10 years off and on that I have been covering the Arizona Cardinals they have always been the butt of all jokes in the world of sports. Things finally began changing this year when they actually started playing up to the potential they entered each preseason with. One win away from clinching their first playoff appearance in over 30 years left all the local media (myself included) wondering how would they screw it up this time.

Todays best of 2008 gallery brings us to my favorite dejection/reaction photos of the year. While not as happy and fun as celebration photos it is still very important to capture athletes at their worst.
