Every year the cars and stars of the NHRA converge on Firebird International Raceway to test out their cars in preparation of the 2009 season which begins in two weeks. Preseason testing usually is the best time to get images of the drivers due to the small crowds and great access. Continue on to see my first motorsports shoot of the new year!

A little over a week ago I was notified that I had won the 2008 Motorsports Photographer of the Year by the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA). It is the second time in the last three years that I was fortunate enough to win the title. On top of Photographer of the Year I won my first Photo of the Year award for my shot of the drag boat crash. Continue on to see more of the images from my portfolio.

After a great shoot just 7 hours prior in Phoenix it was a lovely 6am wakeup call New Years day to hop on a plane for the quick jump over to LA for the Rose Bowl. I was tired, sore and cranky but the gorgeous weather and great light motivated me to cheer up in time for a New Years tradition.

As 2008 began, it would end with me on the sidelines shooting a college bowl game. Although the Insight Bowl is a small game few care about it is one of my favorite games because if the sun is out (which it usually is in Arizona) there is great light to take advantage of. And take advantage of it I did.
