Every once in awhile a crash occurs that has the sports world talking for days. Carl Edwards experienced one of those crashes when he went airborne on the last lap of the Aarons 499 at the Talladega Superspeedway. With its location in the tri-oval plus occuring on the last lap it would be one of the most photographed NASCAR crashes ever. Sadly I wouldn’t be one of the many photographers who would have their coolest crash shot ever. Read on to see my failure.

After a few weeks of shooting baseball I was more than excited when NASCAR made its first visit of the year to the Valley of the Sun. While the race itself usually isn’t very exciting, the light for shooting photos of the race that begins in the day and ends at night is typically amazing. With three races on tap for the weekend things were shaping up to be a fun, productive weekend at home for me.

I have a job where I am lucky enough to travel the world shooting the biggest sporting events on the planet, however one of my favorite sports to shoot is drag racing. Its a sport where cars go from zero to 300mph in a few seconds. Also in those few seconds they can go from beautiful pieces of machinery to piles of twisted metal. After the previous day of shooting college baseball pitcher Stephen Strasburg in Dallas and having my flight home cancelled I flew home the morning of the Elite 8 game between Missouri and Uconn. I knew it would be a rough game on me since I would be completely worn out but as with every shoot I would still give it full effort in hopes of getting something great. Sadly great wasn’t in the cards for me.

Since major league baseball opened their 2009 season a few days ago I figured it was about time to post some of my favorite shots from the few spring training games I found time to shoot this year. Normally I try to shoot 15-20 games during spring training but this time I shot 6. So here we go.
