After two days of qualifying in Phoenix it was time to get to some racing and eventually hand out some hardware in the form of Wally’s! Lets get to race two of the 24 race Mello Yello NHRA tour. Green light!
Lets take a look at the action from Saturday at the Arizona Nationals where drivers would try hard to break into the field on the final day of qualifying.
Still feels pretty odd to be missing the Daytona 500 for the first time since 2006 but no way in hell I will miss the one NHRA race of the season where I can sleep in my own bed. Anyone who travels for a living knows how incredibly nice it is to spend time in your own bed! Its the little things in life people… on to the days action!
The second race on the 2012 NHRA was my favorite stop on the circuit. Not because its a cool track or its a big race but because I get to sleep on my own bed every night. Lets get right to the action of a gorgeous weekend in the Arizona desert.

It is finally time to bring my “Best of 2011″ series to an end with everyones favorite category (except those who appear in these pics) with my Best of Crash and Burn. Not many years ago many of the crashes you see in this post would have resulted in injuries for the drivers but thanks to todays safety technology every driver seen in this blog would walk away. The same can’t be said for their race cars!

With the bulk of the motorsports I shot this year being NHRA drag racing I was unable to cover as many Off Road races and NASCAR as I usually used to do. With that in mind I combined the two motorsports into my latest installment of my “Best of 2011″ series. Strap in and hold on…

A few weeks ago the final race of the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) would visit my hometown of Phoenix for their championship race. On top of loving the hell out of this sport for the excitement, cool drivers and amazing photo access I was motivated to produce cool stuff since this would be my last motor sports event of the year.

With the NHRA circuit down to just three races remaining, the Arizona Nationals near Phoenix would make our break the championship hopes of several professional drivers. While temperatures would exceed 100 degrees all weekend at Firebird International Raceway making for a miserable time shooting and getting down the track for drivers, it was still 20 minutes from my place so I would get to sleep in my own bed every night.

After shooting NASCAR and NHRA the previous month I was very excited to shoot the season opening race for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS). Even more exciting though was the fact the race was taking place just 10 miles from my place. One of my favorite sports + a weekend in town = WINNING!
