A few weeks ago I received a call from one of my editors checking my availability for a day in the life shoot with WNBA rookie sensation Brittney Griner. Now I don’t follow womens basketball at all but I certainly knew who Brittney Griner was and her potential to be the LeBron James of the WNBA. Thankfully my schedule was open so I was able to book the gig.
After a late night following yesterdays USA vs Mexico matchup in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) all I wanted to do was skip the first of two WBC games that took place at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. After two days of sunny skies we would arrive to the track on race day to overcast skies. While cloudy makes the long day less strenuous, Phoenix is one of the best tracks for nice light so it was a slight disappointment to not have the wonderful sun light to work with. On to the race!
Day two of racing at PIR would consist of some Sprint Cup practice followed by the Nationwide race only to be followed by one more race, the K&N Pro Series West. It was a rough and banging day in the desert so lets get to it.
Been a year since I have covered NASCAR at my home track, Phoenix International Raceway. While I am not near into the sport like I used to be I figured with an open weekend I would go out to the track and have some fun shooting the traveling circus that is NASCAR!
After two days of qualifying in Phoenix it was time to get to some racing and eventually hand out some hardware in the form of Wally’s! Lets get to race two of the 24 race Mello Yello NHRA tour. Green light!
Lets take a look at the action from Saturday at the Arizona Nationals where drivers would try hard to break into the field on the final day of qualifying.
Still feels pretty odd to be missing the Daytona 500 for the first time since 2006 but no way in hell I will miss the one NHRA race of the season where I can sleep in my own bed. Anyone who travels for a living knows how incredibly nice it is to spend time in your own bed! Its the little things in life people… on to the days action!
A few days after my first NCAA football game of the year in Tempe, I would next head down to Tucson to shoot the Washington Huskies visiting the Arizona Wildcats. The last time I shot a football game down in Tucson was the 1999 Insight Bowl. Thats 13 years since I have shot there. Boy have I been missing out! Its a great stadium with nice lights but most importantly wide sidelines that makes it easy to get around. Lets check out the shots.
