After two days of sunny skies we would arrive to the track on race day to overcast skies. While cloudy makes the long day less strenuous, Phoenix is one of the best tracks for nice light so it was a slight disappointment to not have the wonderful sun light to work with. On to the race!
Day two of racing at PIR would consist of some Sprint Cup practice followed by the Nationwide race only to be followed by one more race, the K&N Pro Series West. It was a rough and banging day in the desert so lets get to it.
Been a year since I have covered NASCAR at my home track, Phoenix International Raceway. While I am not near into the sport like I used to be I figured with an open weekend I would go out to the track and have some fun shooting the traveling circus that is NASCAR!
After a nearly two month break from covering NASCAR it was finally time to get back to the track as the series made their first of two visits to my hometown of Phoenix. I am way behind on work so I almost didn’t post this blog so with that in mind there won’t be near as much of the background story like I typically do….sorry!

After several weeks in the past few months on the road covering NASCAR it was great to have a weekend at home as NASCAR made their second stop of the year to the Phoenix International Raceway for the second to last race on the year. While PIR isn’t known for exciting races it is absolutely known in the motor sports photography world for some amazing light. Check it out.

After a few weeks of shooting baseball I was more than excited when NASCAR made its first visit of the year to the Valley of the Sun. While the race itself usually isn’t very exciting, the light for shooting photos of the race that begins in the day and ends at night is typically amazing. With three races on tap for the weekend things were shaping up to be a fun, productive weekend at home for me.

2008 was a good year for me covering NASCAR, and although for the second straight year I shot less races than the year before I feel I produced many more quality photos in the shorter time span. So 2008 is in its final month so I figured what better way to remember the great year than by throwing together several best of 2008 galleries. I plan to do several in these last few weeks of the year. I will start it off with my favorite celebration photos of the year.

If the Phoenix International Raceway wasn’t 30 miles from my house I doubt I would come to this race. While it is a fun track to drive on its not quite as fun as a fan. So instead of hanging out waiting for some action I decided to really put in 100% effort and try and kick some ass. Continue reading to see what I came up with.
