Time for the last weekend of a brutal six week stretch of NHRA races. All the editing I have fallen behind on should be rather evident by the fact that this post is two weeks late!  Sorry…

Maple Grove is one of my favorite tracks on the tour so I was very happy to get back to the wonderful green scenery and cooler weather conditions.

A one race client I would pick up for the weekend would be top alcohol funny car driver Cassandra Simonton. In the below shot you see her strapped into the cockpit of her car as the sun peeks into the body of the 260mph car.

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 25iso, f7.1, 1/250th, Manual with SB-800 Flash

Check out the awesome paint job on the helmet of funny car driver Alexis DeJoria. Pretty badass helmet for a chick if you ask me.

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 125iso, f5.6, 1/250th, Manual with SB-800 Flash

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month several pro drivers would don some pink in support of a good cause. Throughout this post I have included all the pink racers.

Below, pro stock motorcycle rider Eddie Krawiec changed the purple paint job of his Harley to a pink paint job. Here he hangs out with teammate Andrew Hines in the staging lanes.

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 200iso, f7.1, 1/250th, Manual with SB-800 Flash

I liked this shot of pro stock motorcycle rider Karen Stoffer as she waits in line for her turn to make a qualifying pass down the Maple Grove Raceway.

Nikon D800, 400mm, 250iso, f5.6, 1/640th, Aperture Priority

Crew members help top fuel driver Terry McMillen with safety gear prior to a qualifying pass in his special pink Amalie Oil racer.

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 200iso, f7.1, 1/250th, Manual with SB-800 Flash

While shooting top fuel drivers Shawn Langdon and Steve Torrence having some interesting conversations in the staging lanes I would get an unexpected photo bomb from future top fuel racer Leah Pruett. Well played LP, well played.

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 200iso, f7.1, 1/250th, Manual with SB-800 Flash

By far the best looking pink car on the property was the Traxxas Mustang of funny car driver Courtney Force. The cars deep pink photographed incredibly well.

Nikon D800, 400mm, 2000iso, f5.6, 1/2000th, Aperture Priority

As the sun set behind the fans filling the grandstands I would get this shot as the sun just peeked through.

Nikon D800, 400mm, 100iso, f5.6, 1/8000th, Aperture Priority

The light behind the starting line would still shine down for a few more minutes allowing me to get this shot of NHRA legend John Force. I like it a lot.

Nikon D800, 400mm, 320iso, f2.8, 1/500th, Aperture Priority

Matt Bynum, a crew member for funny car driver Jeff Arend ruins my shot as he runs alongside Arend doing a burnout prior to backing him up. Being that Arend is one of my Toyota Racing clients I probably should have been mad but it didn’t bother me because I knew I would exploit him by posting it in the blog!

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 200iso, f5, 1/200th, Manual with SB-800 Flash

The coolest run of the day was in the final pair of round two of funny car qualifying when Jack Beckman would become just the third driver to break into the three second zone. While Ron Capps owns the quickest run at a 3.96, he was unable to back it up for a new national record and the 20 precious bonus points it pays. Beckman would back it up and take the points lead.

Nikon D800, 400mm, 800iso, f4, 1/640th, Aperture Priority

Top fuel driver Dom Lagana would run a special pink themed paint job.

Nikon D4, 70-200mm, 2500iso, f5, 1/500th, Manual

During one of several oil downs on the evening the crew for top fuel driver Shawn Langdon would hang out behind the starting line as bored as I was it appears.

Nikon D800, 24-70mm, 1600iso, f2.8, 1/80th, Aperture Priority

Championship contender Spencer Massey launches his top fueler during night qualifying. He would make a great run but would level the engine with a big explosion in the lights.

Nikon D4, 70-200mm, 3200iso, f4, 1/800th, Manual

Top fuel points leader Antron Brown launches his pink Matco Tools dragster off the starting line as night takes over Pennsylvania.

Will try and get the rest of the weekends blogs posted before heading to Vegas this weekend for second to last NHRA race of the season!
