Nikon D3, 24-70mm, 4000iso, f2.8, 1/1250th

After a busy day of taking the girlfriend to IHOP and editing photos I cruised down the road to Arizona State University to cover the Sun Devils game against the Stanford Cardinal. It was a warm day with a game time temperature of 104 degrees so it was sure to be fun!

I got to the stadium about 45 minute before kickoff and set up in the worst media “room” ever (I’ll take pics next game I do there). I headed out to the field a few minutes before the team entered the field to set up for a feature shot of the team running out. I set up shop between the band as they waited to perform for their team.

When the team came running out I fired off a few images at a faster shutter speed for stop action….

The photo wasn’t too bad but its the total standard boring pre-game shot that everybody and their brother shoots. I made a very quick camera adjustment and tried something different.

I liked that shot much better than the stopped action photo so I decided to make another quick adjustment and see how even slower would look.

While it still looks decent its a bit too blurry for my liking. Worth a try though.

All the pyrotechnic smoke mixed with the humid air made life miserable for the first half of the game as it left a layer of smoke over the field.

As you can probably guess that can make for focusing issues and makes most the shots like crappy. I was hoping it would be a cool fog that would make images look unique but it really didn’t help my cause.

As the game went on the air cleared up and images looked better.

Nothing else really cool to talk about so here are some more images from the game.

Heres a photo sent to me by my buddy Kyle Terada showing me hard at work with the Sun Devil cheerleaders providing a nice backdrop. Thanks Kyle!
