Next up in my recap of 2009 is my Best of Drag Racing photos. As most of you probably know I basically grew up at drag strips as I followed my father, Gil Rebilas, to tracks around the country shooting drag racing. Perhaps thats why its my favorite sport to cover. Regardless, I present to you some of my favorites from 2009!

Every summer boat racers from around the country converge on Augusta, Georgia for the Augusta Southern Nationals. I missed the last two years due to covering the 2007 Pan Am Games in Brazil and missed 2008 due to the Olympics in China but this year I was hell bent on heading east to cover one of the crown jewels of drag boat racing.

I have a job where I am lucky enough to travel the world shooting the biggest sporting events on the planet, however one of my favorite sports to shoot is drag racing. Its a sport where cars go from zero to 300mph in a few seconds. Also in those few seconds they can go from beautiful pieces of machinery to piles of twisted metal. With Super Bowl weekend off I was desperate to find a shoot. My wishes were answered when one of my editors from ESPN.com called and asked if I wanted to travel to Las Vegas to shoot UFC 94. I knew nothing about the sport, haven’t even watched it before but of course I acted like I knew about it and gladly accepted the gig. From there it was time to start asking friends with experience how to shoot it.
