A few months back I had the privilege of shoot behind the scenes with NFL superstar Kurt Warner for an ESPN.com story. With ESPN writer Wayne Drehs in tow we got to work documenting Kurts life on and off the field.
Every year the cars and stars of the NHRA converge on Firebird International Raceway to test out their cars in preparation of the 2009 season which begins in two weeks. Preseason testing usually is the best time to get images of the drivers due to the small crowds and great access. Continue on to see my first motorsports shoot of the new year!
Due to my main laptop deciding to die on me last week I am super late with the posting of this blog. But anyways the Texas Longhorns came to Glendale, AZ to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in what promised to be a great game. And boy was it! Lets get started…
After a great shoot just 7 hours prior in Phoenix it was a lovely 6am wakeup call New Years day to hop on a plane for the quick jump over to LA for the Rose Bowl. I was tired, sore and cranky but the gorgeous weather and great light motivated me to cheer up in time for a New Years tradition.
As 2008 began, it would end with me on the sidelines shooting a college bowl game. Although the Insight Bowl is a small game few care about it is one of my favorite games because if the sun is out (which it usually is in Arizona) there is great light to take advantage of. And take advantage of it I did.
In the many motorsport events I cover every year I typically witness several crashes. While most are simple spins into the wall, sometime it is hard impacts and explosions and sometimes even flips. Continue on to see some of the dramatic moments I witnessed in 2008.
A few weeks ago I was laying on the couch watching Family Guy when a commercial came on advertising a college basketball doubleheader at the NFL stadium here in Phoenix. I despise basketball and think the sport should be banned but I instantly sent a email to my credential guy requesting a pass. Why you may ask? Because I envisioned an amazing wide angle shot of a tiny basketball court inside of the massive stadium. Continue reading to see how it all panned out.
Throughout the year there are some sports I cover only once or twice so instead of leaving them out I have decided to show some of my best sports images from random sports. Some of my best photos of the year came from some of these random sports that I normally dont shoot. So while a lot of these sports are far from random for most of you, they are for me.
With all the mainstream professional sports I cover these days it has really knocked down the amount of drag racing I have been able to cover. I really love shooting drag racing so in the few events I shot this year I made it a point to work as hard as I could to produce some quality images. So here are my favorite drag racing photos of 2008.
In my ten years covering professional sports in the Phoenix area I had never shot NHL hockey before and was finally ready to give it a shot. As with everyone who has ever watched hockey on TV I went to the game in hopes of seeing big hits and some fights. Continue reading to see if I got what I wanted.
