A few weeks ago the final race of the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) would visit my hometown of Phoenix for their championship race. On top of loving the hell out of this sport for the excitement, cool drivers and amazing photo access I was motivated to produce cool stuff since this would be my last motor sports event of the year.

Most people associate Arizona with hot temperatures and dry deserts. However, late in the summer the monsoon season arrives and produces big storms that pound the area with rain, dust storms and lightning. Anytime I am in town and not working you can be sure that I am keeping a watchful eye on the local radars in hopes of some storms so I can go storm chasing.

Was laying in bed sick as a dog when my buddy Mike Isler sent me a link to a professional wakeboarding competition going on at Firebird Lake about 15 miles from my house. It had been a good 5 days since I had last shot so I was antsy to get back to work!
I sent an email about the shoot to my ESPN the Mag editor to pitch the idea to her. I was somewhat expecting her to decline the idea but I was delighted to get an email back a few hours later giving it the go ahead.
