After a month of drag racing, baseball and football I was super excited to get back out on the dirt to shoot the stars of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series as they made their second stop of the year at Speedworld in Surprise, AZ. On top of the normal action stuff I shoot I decided prior to the event that it was time to bring out my soft box setup and do some driver portraits.

With how busy I have been covering NASCAR during this years Chase for the Cup I gotta admit I was starting to get bored with the repetition of covering several races. I haven’t shot an NFL game in well over a month and really miss shooting it, however a weekend in Talladega was more than enough to help me realize why I love covering NASCAR so much. Every year I keep saying I am not gonna do the race at Fontana yet every year I end up caving in and covering the action on the two mile oval of Auto Club Speedway. Don’t get me wrong, the track is top notch and the media are treated great by the tracks staff but nothing can overcome the simple fact that it is a boring track that lacks the normal action fans are used to at other tracks.

With all the traveling I have done around the world as a sports photographer and a Navy photographer (a few years prior) I have been lucky enough to see all sorts of great places in multiple continents around the world. One place I hadn’t been was Europe. Thanks to an awesome girlfriend I received a plane ticket to Amsterdam as an early birthday present to join her and her friend Amie on their long ago planned vacation. Let the fun begin!

The Craftsman Truck Series race is usually one of the best races I shoot all year. Sadly this year was the exception to the rule and all my best images during the race were of the drunk fans.
