Following the wild and exciting weekend I had in Bristol at my last NHRA race I pretty much knew this weekend would not be near as good for photos but I was still excited to check out Route 66 raceway in Joliet, IL. This track along with Denver, CO and Brainerd, MN are the three remaining tracks on the NHRA tour I have not yet been to.

With how busy I have been covering NASCAR during this years Chase for the Cup I gotta admit I was starting to get bored with the repetition of covering several races. I haven’t shot an NFL game in well over a month and really miss shooting it, however a weekend in Talladega was more than enough to help me realize why I love covering NASCAR so much. Last week I was shooting a boring race in overcast weather in California, this weekend I found myself in sunny Las Vegas shooting NASCAR on the much more exciting Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Although anything would have been better than last weekend, Vegas would prove to be a great weekend with lots of cool photos.

So after shooting 13 NASCAR races around the country it finally came down to my 14th and final race of the season in sunny Miami for the championship race. With Jimmie Johnson having a gigantic points lead I would spend most of my weekend trying to get as many different angles of him as possible since the championship would be his third straight, tying him with NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough as the only driver to three peat, and would be good for sales. If the Phoenix International Raceway wasn’t 30 miles from my house I doubt I would come to this race. While it is a fun track to drive on its not quite as fun as a fan. So instead of hanging out waiting for some action I decided to really put in 100% effort and try and kick some ass. Continue reading to see what I came up with.
