The past two weeks I have been busy shooting drag racing and while I have had fun (excluding my 10k loss) I really didn’t get much as far as wild action so I was a very happy guy to know the next stop on my schedule would be NASCAR on the craziest track on the circuit, Talladega!

As most of you guys know I shoot several NASCAR races every year. 34 of the 36 races races take place on various oval tracks but two occur on road courses where the drivers have to make left and right turns. Thats where things get fun. On top of seeing top level drivers look like confused amateurs it also is great to shoot unique photos that you cant get at any other tracks.

As with the previous four years of covering NASCAR the final race of the 2009 season would once again be all about Jimmie Johnson. This time he was closing in on a historic (and unprecedented) fourth straight championship.

With how busy I have been covering NASCAR during this years Chase for the Cup I gotta admit I was starting to get bored with the repetition of covering several races. I haven’t shot an NFL game in well over a month and really miss shooting it, however a weekend in Talladega was more than enough to help me realize why I love covering NASCAR so much. With the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in their playoffs, also known as the Chase, it is now time for me to shoot less football and now focus on lots and lots of NASCAR. My first of seven playoff races I will be covering was at the 1.5 mile Kansas Speedway. While it is not one of my favorite tracks, it is a nice facility and (most importantly) its a less than two hour flight from my home in Phoenix.

When you go to a restrictor plate race the chances of seeing some spectacular racing is typically very good. Thats why the races are so popular with the fans and its also why I have gone to the past 11 restrictor plate races and will continue to go to every one for many more years. The latest stop was at the historic high banks of the Daytona International Speedway where Kyle Busch would attempt to win back to back July Daytona races after his victory the previous year.

After 5 days of attempting to get over screwing up and missing the Carl Edwards crash in Talladega it was time to put it behind me as I made the trip up to Richmond, Virginia for a nice weekend of NASCAR on the 3/4 mile short track of Richmond International Raceway.

Last week I was shooting a boring race in overcast weather in California, this weekend I found myself in sunny Las Vegas shooting NASCAR on the much more exciting Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Although anything would have been better than last weekend, Vegas would prove to be a great weekend with lots of cool photos.

Just three months ago NASCAR closed out their 2008 season down in Miami. At that time I was close to burned out after a pretty rough schedule of races and was glad to see it end. As it always works, after a few weeks off, I was ready for it to come back. The 2009 season began this weekend up the Florida coast in Daytona Beach, where the stars and cars of NASCAR and the ARCA series wasted no time in destroying some cars.
