Race two of the three races on the Western Swing brought us to one of my favorite tracks on the NHRA circuit, Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA. I usually have pretty good luck at this track so I was hoping to continue the streak this weekend.

After several months of only shooting football and basketball it was time to get back to shooting one of my favorite sports, NASCAR. Unlike nearly every other sport in the world which has their biggest event towards the end of the season, the biggest race on the NASCAR calendar is the first race of the season. Strap in as I show you my best imagery from 12 days at the World Center of Speed in Daytona Beach.

Every year when May comes around I get excited to go cover my favorite race of the year, the Indianapolis 500. Nothing can compare to the history and tradition of the 500. Off to the races!

After a wild and crazy weekend of NHRA in Phoenix it was on to Vegas for NASCAR. Driving up to the shoot I thought to myself it was going to be very tough for Vegas to top Phoenix. Boy was I right. Try not to fall asleep during this blog!

Back in the day when I was growing up rarely would I ever miss the Arizona Nationals in Chandler, AZ. The track was only 12 miles from where I lived so it was always a must attend. As I have gotten older and been busier with work the years began to go by that I haven’t been able to attend my home town race. Finally this year I decided I was not gonna miss the race. All I can say is I am glad I made the 2010 Arizona Nationals……because I doubt they will ever race at this track again. Put on your seatbelts, its about to be a bumpy ride!

With how busy I have been covering NASCAR during this years Chase for the Cup I gotta admit I was starting to get bored with the repetition of covering several races. I haven’t shot an NFL game in well over a month and really miss shooting it, however a weekend in Talladega was more than enough to help me realize why I love covering NASCAR so much. After a few years of not shooting NASCAR at Charlotte I decided I wanted to cover the fall chase race at the Lowes Motor Speedway. It is a great track to shoot at and usually is an action packed race. The one thing I wasn’t expecting though was the low temperatures (40s) or the high ISO’s (6400).

I have really been trying to make an effort to cover more NHRA this year so with nothing going on for the weekend I decided to make the trek up to Sonoma for the Fram Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway. I have been to this track several times to cover NASCAR but never for NHRA. I am very happy I went to the race because this is without a doubt one of my favorite tracks to shoot drag racing at.

After experiencing the excitement and history of the Indianapolis 500 last year I made myself a promise that I would shoot this race every year for as long as I could. That brings us to 2009 which makes two years in a row for me. If I could pick who would win the race I totally would have gone with Danica Patrick, since it would make me a lot of money in sales. My second choice would probably have been Helio Castroneves. For starters he has been in the news a lot lately after being acquitted of federal tax evasion charges, second because if he won he would be a three time 500 winner thus making him one of the greatest Indy Car drivers of all time.

Every once in awhile a crash occurs that has the sports world talking for days. Carl Edwards experienced one of those crashes when he went airborne on the last lap of the Aarons 499 at the Talladega Superspeedway. With its location in the tri-oval plus occuring on the last lap it would be one of the most photographed NASCAR crashes ever. Sadly I wouldn’t be one of the many photographers who would have their coolest crash shot ever. Read on to see my failure.
