Got to spend a few days out at Firebird Lake to shoot the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series World Finals. Continue on to see my favorite shots from the weekend…
Since every TV channel, website and publication has done their moments/photos of the decade I decided I should probably do the same. While I am sure I am missing numerous worthy photos (due to a few dead hard drives and my laziness to scan negatives) here are 50 of my favorite images from the last decade. Enjoy!
Every summer boat racers from around the country converge on Augusta, Georgia for the Augusta Southern Nationals. I missed the last two years due to covering the 2007 Pan Am Games in Brazil and missed 2008 due to the Olympics in China but this year I was hell bent on heading east to cover one of the crown jewels of drag boat racing.
A little over a week ago I was notified that I had won the 2008 Motorsports Photographer of the Year by the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA). It is the second time in the last three years that I was fortunate enough to win the title. On top of Photographer of the Year I won my first Photo of the Year award for my shot of the drag boat crash. Continue on to see more of the images from my portfolio.
In the many motorsport events I cover every year I typically witness several crashes. While most are simple spins into the wall, sometime it is hard impacts and explosions and sometimes even flips. Continue on to see some of the dramatic moments I witnessed in 2008.
My busy schedule hasn’t allowed me to shoot one of my favorite sports, Drag Boat Racing, in over a year so when I actually had a few days off, with the worlds fastest boats in town, it was an event I was not gonna miss. Some of my favorite career photos have taken place while covering the 250mph fiberglass boats skipping across the water, this weekend would provide me more wild images. Continue reading to see the catastrophic results of a 200mph right turn!
