The Miami sun sets on the 2008 NASCAR season

So after shooting 13 NASCAR races around the country it finally came down to my 14th and final race of the season in sunny Miami for the championship race. With Jimmie Johnson having a gigantic points lead I would spend most of my weekend trying to get as many different angles of him as possible since the championship would be his third straight, tying him with NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough as the only driver to three peat, and would be good for sales. Continue reading to see what I came up with.

Thunder in the Arizona Desert…NASCAR Style

If the Phoenix International Raceway wasn’t 30 miles from my house I doubt I would come to this race. While it is a fun track to drive on its not quite as fun as a fan. So instead of hanging out waiting for some action I decided to really put in 100% effort and try and kick some ass. Continue reading to see what I came up with.

Talladega Day 4 (controversy wins exciting race!)

Only in the world of NASCAR can the driver who finished second be called the winner while the driver who finished first be called the 18th place finisher. Sound a bit confusing? Continue reading to see how that happens.

Talladega Day Three (lackluster truck race, stereotypical Nascar fans)

Nikon D3, 80-200mm, 500iso, f5, 1/640th

The Craftsman Truck Series race is usually one of the best races I shoot all year. Sadly this year was the exception to the rule and all my best images during the race were of the drunk fans.

Talladega Day 2 (ARCA Wreckfest!)

The Friday ARCA race in Talladega isn’t a race I am required to shoot but as someone who likes to shoot wild action its a race you couldn’t pay me to miss (seriously). Once again the race proved why I love it so much as it was total carnage at every point on the track.

Talladega Day One

Today was my travel day from Phoenix to Talladega for this weekends big race. While normally I don’t go to the track on a Thursday I decided to swing by the track to show first time visitor Guy Rhodes around the facility. I wasn’t expecting to take any photos. Of course that went out the window once we got there!

Kamikaze Carl hits the wall, Tubby Tony hits the gasman

Nikon D3, 600mm with 1.4 convertor, 400iso, f7.1, 1/1250th

For some reason I chose to do the NASCAR race in Kansas City even though I hate shooting at this track. The first two days of horrible shooting made me realize why I hate the race but the last day did a pretty good job of making the weekend worth while.

3 Dover races, 3 Dover remotes, 3 mediocre results

Nikon D3, 600mm, 400iso, f7.1, 1/3200th

Ended up in the popular tourist destination over Dover, Delaware for the second race of the NASCAR Chase for the Cup. Normally Dover is pretty good for some action but some weekends can be duds. This weekend was one of them.

Driving into the California Sunset…..at over 200mph

Nikon D3, 24-70mm, 2000iso, f2.8, 1/800th

After a late night shooting NFL the previous day it was a 45 minute flight over to Ontario, CA to shoot my first nascar race in nearly two months. While this race is typically one of the most boring races of the year I continue to go because of the great light. I wasn’t disappointed!

Odd food and free stuff make for a good day in Beijing

Today was a very busy and tiring day but also very productive. With sight seeing as well as shooting some venue features I put in about 14 hours. After waking up around 8 a.m. I hung out in the third floor lobby (where the internet is) and worked on some images from the previous day as well as surfing the web to catch up on the latest news back in the states.
