On my last day of shooting the London Olympics I would be assigned to cover the Men’s Race Walk that began at 9am. Following a long day and late night at Taekwondo I was not exactly thrilled about the shoot. (more…)
.With two days left of shooting at the Olympics I was hopeful for some really cool assignments, like BMX or Womens Gymnastics. Instead I would get assigned for an up to 15 hour day at the Excel Center covering Taekwondo. I have never shot the sport nor do I know anything about it. But hey, before Olympics I told management I wanted to cover as many different sports as possible. Guess I should be careful what I ask for!
.Following the amazing semi final game three days ago in which USA edged out Canada in a nail biting thriller it was going to be hard for the gold medal game vs Japan to compare. Or so I thought. Continue on and you tell me if it compared…

A few days ago I told management I would like to cover Team USA basketball one time. I was told “sure” but there was a catch. I would have to go cover all the games of the day, not just the USA game. Anyone who knows me knows Im not the biggest basketball fan so this would be interesting.
.Been in London for over two weeks now and the schedule is definitely affecting my creativity and drive. Its at these times where I have to force myself to continue digging deep to produce cool photos when all I really wanna do is sleep! This day would be a good one since I would spend a few hours covering wrestling. If there ever was an easy Olympic sport to shoot, this is it.
.Following my last trip to Manchester to shoot USA woman’s football/soccer (take your pick) I was excited when management told me I would once again be sent up to Manchester via a fast train to cover Team USA’s semi final matchup against their neighbor Canada. I was expecting a fun game but NEVER would I have imagined the thriller I was about to witness!
.At the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008 I shot gymnastics for two weeks straight. Here in London I would only shoot about an hour of gymnastics at the O2 Arena, oh wait, we are not allowed to call it that since they aren’t an Olympic sponsor. Here are some shots from the “North Greenwich Arena.”

On this day I would make my first trek to the Velodrome for some track cycling. I was honestly really looking forward to shooting there. That was, of course, until I arrived and walked around the venue.

At the Beijing Olympics I was stuck photographing Gymnastics for two weeks and it got old very quick. For London I told management I wanted to cover as many different events as possible. My philosophy is why travel halfway around the world to cover sports I cover back home in Phoenix all the time? When I got my assignment scheduled emailed to me for this day I saw shooting on my list of events and let out a groan. This would be a tough one…
.I’ve been in London now for eight days and have been shooting damn near non stop. There have been many times where I am so physically and mentally fatigued I have to force myself not to get lazy or unmotivated. What has been keeping me going is the fact that I am surrounded by the best sports photographers in the world and I’ll be damned if I worked this hard to get outshot!
