NHRA Phoenix-Where driving in a straight line not as easy as it looks

ea02b_3566

Back in the day when I was growing up rarely would I ever miss the Arizona Nationals in Chandler, AZ. The track was only 12 miles from where I lived so it was always a must attend. As I have gotten older and been busier with work the years began to go by that I haven’t been able to attend my home town race. Finally this year I decided I was not gonna miss the race. All I can say is I am glad I made the 2010 Arizona Nationals……because I doubt they will ever race at this track again. Put on your seatbelts, its about to be a bumpy ride!

Scary Fans and Scary Crashes dominate Hallow-Dega

ea11z_0948

With how busy I have been covering NASCAR during this years Chase for the Cup I gotta admit I was starting to get bored with the repetition of covering several races. I haven’t shot an NFL game in well over a month and really miss shooting it, however a weekend in Talladega was more than enough to help me realize why I love covering NASCAR so much. Continue reading to see exactly why I love restrictor plate racing!

Off Road racing, Dirt Flying, Trucks Flying, Im Flying!

ea01d_3747

As a sports photographer most of my time is spent covering the major pro sports such as MLB, NFL and NASCAR. While that gives me a good variety of events to cover it still gets redundant always shooting the same top level sports. One thing I do to take a break from those sports is to look for cool and interesting events to cover when I have time. Off road trucks flying through the air over dirt jumps definitely would qualify as something different from the norm. Buckle up and hang on!

A rare weekend off turns into random remote cameras

ea06d_0806

It is very rare that I have a full weekend off, even rarer is actually taking a vacation of any sorts. While most people can’t wait to have time off and go on vacations I am one of the few lucky people who has their dream job. With that in mind I have no problem regularly working 50-60 hour weeks. My partner in crime Jennifer invited me up north to spend a weekend experiencing cabin life and I jumped at the opportunity to try something outside of my normal routine. Continue on to see what occurs when a photographer figures out how to “work” on his vacation.

Spiderman drives 500 miles for a bottle of Milk

ea05z_7838

After experiencing the excitement and history of the Indianapolis 500 last year I made myself a promise that I would shoot this race every year for as long as I could. That brings us to 2009 which makes two years in a row for me. If I could pick who would win the race I totally would have gone with Danica Patrick, since it would make me a lot of money in sales. My second choice would probably have been Helio Castroneves. For starters he has been in the news a lot lately after being acquitted of federal tax evasion charges, second because if he won he would be a three time 500 winner thus making him one of the greatest Indy Car drivers of all time.

Manny Ramirez joins prestigious list of Steroid users

ea20090313_mjr_su5_018

Just over a week ago I awoke to the bombshell news that Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Manny Ramirez had been suspended 50 games for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. With this potentially being the biggest sports breaking news event of the year I quickly got out of bed and began going through a harddrive containing my 2009 archive of images from Spring Training as well as a few regular season games to ensure I had all my best stuff edited, captioned and online for editors to purchase.

18 Stories above home plate Roof Cam makes its Debut

ea03y_6180

As a photographer who works between 50-60 hours a week one thing that gets tough is taking the extra time to try unique shots. Sure sometimes it can produce something wonderful that makes it worth the extra time and effort but more often than not it doesn’t work as planned and leaves you pissed off for taking all the extra time instead of just doing the normal thing everyone else does. But in these economic times with photographers being laid off and freelance budgets drying up it is imperative to be different from the norm to survive as a photographer. Continue reading to see how hard work can sometimes pay off!

UConn Huskies tame the Missouri Tigers in Elite 8

ea03z_6421

After the previous day of shooting college baseball pitcher Stephen Strasburg in Dallas and having my flight home cancelled I flew home the morning of the Elite 8 game between Missouri and Uconn. I knew it would be a rough game on me since I would be completely worn out but as with every shoot I would still give it full effort in hopes of getting something great. Sadly great wasn’t in the cards for me.
