One of the roughest, yet most rewarding assignments of my career was spending three weeks down in Brazil covering the 2014 World Cup. Here are my favorite images from the experience!
.With USA defying the odds by advancing out of the proverbial “Group of Death”, soccer fever began to take over the United States prior to their round of 16 matchup against Belgium. “I believe that we will win” became a chant heard at bars all around the country, including some in Brazil. Lets get to the game that ended with a heartbroken nation.
With Team USA just needing a tie to guarantee advancement out of the “Group of Death” to the round of 16 in the 2014 World Cup, they would arrive in Recife, Brazil to conditions that nobody could have imagined. After a big victory against Ghana in their opening match, Team USA would head to the rain forests of Manaus, Brazil, along the Amazon River for their second match of the group stage against Portugal. For my third match of the 2014 World Cup, I found myself back at the Arena Corinthians for a big matchup between England and Uruguay. After both teams lost their first game, this game essentially would be an elimination game for the unlucky loser. Lets get to the match!
In the humid beach city of Natal, Brazil Team USA took on Ghana in their opening match of the 2014 World Cup. It was a game that experts were saying they had to at least finish in a tie or their chances of advancing to the next round would be next to impossible with their upcoming games against powerhouses Portugal and Germany. Well instead of tying and getting 1 point in their rankings, USA went out and won the game to take 3 points. Continue on to see all the images from the exciting match!
Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil where the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicked off yesterday evening with a matchup between Brazil and Croatia. All the hassle of getting here and getting set up is finally in the rear view.
