Thanks to NHRA being rained out in nearby Commerce, GA I was able to get credentialed on short notice to cover NASCAR at my favorite track, Talladega.  Due to NHRA obligations I missed both of last years races for the first time since 2006 so I was very happy to be at the craziest track in NASCAR.

For the race I would shoot from my customary elevated position high above the try-oval. The elevation gave me a decent view of the entire 2.66 mile oval. What that REALLY means is I have no excuse to miss anything.

As is the case with races at Talladega, there would be plenty of things for me to photograph.

Rain would be a big threat all day.

And it would cause an over three hour red flag rain delay.

All the delays plus the fact that Talladega doesn’t have lights to accommodate night race meant we would be rushing to complete the race prior to darkness.

I really wish this crash had happened much closer instead of being nearly 3/4 of a mile away from my position (farthest spot on track from me)

After a strong run, Danica would be done in by the accident.

Mark – great work as usual under some tough light/weather conditions.
It is always good to see the little guys win a big race. Congrats to FrontRow for the 1/2 finish.
