Talladega Day Three (lackluster truck race, stereotypical Nascar fans)

Nikon D3, 80-200mm, 500iso, f5, 1/640th

The Craftsman Truck Series race is usually one of the best races I shoot all year. Sadly this year was the exception to the rule and all my best images during the race were of the drunk fans.

Talladega Day 2 (ARCA Wreckfest!)

The Friday ARCA race in Talladega isn’t a race I am required to shoot but as someone who likes to shoot wild action its a race you couldn’t pay me to miss (seriously). Once again the race proved why I love it so much as it was total carnage at every point on the track.

Talladega Day One

Today was my travel day from Phoenix to Talladega for this weekends big race. While normally I don’t go to the track on a Thursday I decided to swing by the track to show first time visitor Guy Rhodes around the facility. I wasn’t expecting to take any photos. Of course that went out the window once we got there!

Kamikaze Carl hits the wall, Tubby Tony hits the gasman

Nikon D3, 600mm with 1.4 convertor, 400iso, f7.1, 1/1250th

For some reason I chose to do the NASCAR race in Kansas City even though I hate shooting at this track. The first two days of horrible shooting made me realize why I hate the race but the last day did a pretty good job of making the weekend worth while.

3 Dover races, 3 Dover remotes, 3 mediocre results

Nikon D3, 600mm, 400iso, f7.1, 1/3200th

Ended up in the popular tourist destination over Dover, Delaware for the second race of the NASCAR Chase for the Cup. Normally Dover is pretty good for some action but some weekends can be duds. This weekend was one of them.

99 things I hate about traveling

Photo by Guy Rhodes from unauthorized shooting location on top of San Diego parking garage

While on a flight this morning from Phoenix to Atlanta instead of editing stock images like I should have been doing (I am way far behind) I instead chose to jot down some of the things I hate about all the traveling I do. What started as a possible 25 thing list quickly turned into 99 things.

My birthday gift from the Arizona Cardinals…a win!

Nikon D3, 400mm, 1250iso, f2.8, 1/1250th

Ever since the Superbowl last year I couldn’t wait for the NFL season to begin. After a preseason game a few weeks ago it was finally time for the Arizona Cardinals home opener against the horrible Miami Dolphins.

Photographer/blogger Robert Benson from San Diego recently wrote a feature about my use of remotes for sports photography. It was a fun interview that made for a good story so be sure to head over to his blog to read the story.

200 miles spent chasing sunsets and lightning

Nikon D3, 14-24mm, 100iso, f9, 30 second exposure

With the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road and the monsoon season coming to a close any day now I decided to focus on trying to get some good lightning shots for stock. So armed with my macbook pro logged onto the doppler radar on weather.com via my verizon wireless card off I went in search of something good. College football in the Arizona Fog?

Nikon D3, 24-70mm, 4000iso, f2.8, 1/1250th

After a busy day of taking the girlfriend to IHOP and editing photos I cruised down the road to Arizona State University to cover the Sun Devils game against the Stanford Cardinal. It was a warm day with a game time temperature of 104 degrees so it was sure to be fun!
