Continue on to see all my favorite images from one hell of a fun game to shoot!

After not having the best Super Bowl last year, I came into this years big game incredibly motivated to redeem myself. Lets get to the game.

During the security check in process at stadium we all had to put our equipment in an area to be sniffed by bomb dogs and then tagged by security.  During that process a guard would knock my 400mm 2.8 lens over. Since it was on carpet when it happened I assumed everything would be fine. More on that in a minute.

Four hours prior to the game I found myself waiting at a loading dock to shoot the Patriots team bus arrival.  Obviously Tom Brady would be the most important person to shoot with the Patriots arrival but unfortunately Brady came in early on a different bus that went to a different spot so Bill Belichick would be as good as it would get for me.

I would head out to the sidelines about an hour and a half before the game to start shooting some pre game photos.

I picked up my camera with the 400mm lens on it to shoot some players on the sideline before I found out that the lens being knocked over had indeed screwed me as the lens would no longer lock on when focusing.

Fortunately I had an awesome assistant/tech Adam Hagy working alongside me and he was able to run my inoperable lens the half mile from the sidelines to Canon Professional Services set up in a nearby building outside the stadium and within 20 minutes he was back on the sidelines with a loaner lens to get me through the game.  Thanks Canon!!!

Here are a few various pre game images.

Each year shooting the half time show gets harder and harder.  All the sideline media was corralled into one end zone and corner and it wasn’t a corner with a good view of the concert so despite my big lens, the below shots were as good as I was able to get.

The below touchdown would be the most controversial play of this years Super Bowl. When I watched the video from the field I thought it would be ruled that his foot was out of bounds but the first show shows that the refs appeared to get it right.

The below shot shows the sea of photographers that I have to deal with on the sidelines.  Thankfully I am a fast runner with all my gear and can usually run up to the next spot I want to shoot at before the bulk of the photographers get there.

In every sporting event I cover, whether a small college football game or the Super Bowl, I always want to get good photos of the game winning play.  I would get my wish on this night with a clean view as Zach Ertz would make a leaping dive into the end zone to take the lead in the fourth quarter.

Tom Brady would attempt to lead the Patriots down the field to score but the below sack and subsequent fumble would essentially end Bradys chances at ring number 6. Or so we thought….

The below shot of a dejected Brady on the sidelines was a lot harder to shoot than you’d think, thanks to well placed injured players blocking the photographers on the edge of the teams bench area.

Brady would indeed have one final shot to accomplish a miracle with a hail mary throw to the end zone on the games final play.

I had made the decision midway through the fourth quarter that if the Patriots lost the game, I would skip running to the winners like I typically do  and instead run to Brady and shoot his emotions after losing a third Super Bowl.

Despite what a lot of people on the internet think, Brady did indeed congratulate some of the Eagles players before leaving the field.

Ok back to my pursuit of a dejected Tom Brady in confetti shot!

In the next few photos you can get a good idea on how tough the army of Patriots security guarding Brady are for me to infiltrate.
